You’ve just purchased your first home. Congratulations! There is nothing like the pride of homeownership. Once you’ve moved in all your things, you might find that you still have some space to fill. Whether it’s a spare bedroom, finished basement or nook, we’ve got tons of ideas on how to fill up all that new space!
Spare Bedroom(s) Having room to grow into is ideal in a first home, but as with many of our first time homebuyers at Haven Ridge, you may not yet have a need for two extra bedrooms. Though one can serve nicely as a guest room for company, there’s still that second spare room. Make it work for you by creating an office space/reading room with plenty of shelving for books and a cozy spot to enjoy sitting by a window in the afternoon sun with a good book. Or, take your storage to the next level by turning a whole room into a luxurious prep room/closet space.
Basement There’s no reason that a basement needs to be a dreary place! Turn it into the ideal entertaining spot with a TV, mini fridge and maybe even your own bar. All that open space will be perfect for hosting friends for a game night or relaxing in your very own “man cave”.
Breakfast Nook If you have space for a small breakfast table, but don’t need the extra seating, use a breakfast nook to expand your kitchen by adding a few cabinets, shelves or a pot rack.
Stairway/Landing Just because a space isn’t a defined room of it’s own doesn’t mean you can’t make it your own and give it a purpose. Add a chaise lounge on a landing for a cute new place to relax, or use a corner of your stairs as the new home for your favorite plant or sculpture.
Wall Space A single set of photo frames can go a long way. Spread your artwork and photos throughout your new home, and be sure to put them in places that you can see and enjoy them! Along hallways or stairs are a great place to show off your favorites, where you can walk by and enjoy them every day.
