Modern technology may have helped us grow accustomed to the smart phone – but what about the smart home?
The newly introduced Apple Home Kit would provide a way to connect all the devices in your home. Apple released the news at their World Wide Developer conference in San Francisco this week, unleashing a torrent of speculation about the way the software will operate, what competition is out there and just how smart this program will be. Was LeVar Burton on to something with his 1999 Disney Channel movie, Smart House?
According to Apple software chief Craig Federighi, a house equipped with Home Kit will connect any iDevices as well as products from partners, who so far include Philips, Honeywell and about a dozen more companies, that are compatible with iPhone/iPad technology. Through their iPhone, Home Kit users would have control over all these devices at the touch of a button, or better yet, through a verbal command.

But instructing Siri on our iPhone to “Go to bed” and watching our thermostat lower, garage door close and lights turn off is a whole different ball game.
What do you think of Apple’s latest venture? Could you imagine turning your Lehigh Valley townhome into a smart home?
