Putting First Things First
There are lots of innovative and great decoration ideas that can help you to maximize space in your homes, rooms, offices or where ever you may need it. Needing more space, irrespective of the size of the given space, usually comes down to matters of storage and perspective. As such, the best way to increase your perceived living space is to combine decoration and storage techniques.
The first step is to de-clutter your space. Throw out, recycle, sell or give away the things that you really do not need. Things you do not need are usually the things you hardly ever use. Once you have de-cluttered your space and you are down to only the things you really need, then you can begin to implement the following decoration ideas to help create more living space in your room, home or office.
Add Light and Light Colors
The more light that a room has, the larger it will look and feel. Therefore, adding a window to open up the space and let in some light is a good start. In addition painting cabinets, walls, built-ins and the like, white (or at least a light color) will help to also open up the space — making it appear and feel roomier.
Placing mirror panels on focus or accent walls also help to open up a space and create the perception of more room. Of course, this is not to be overdone. A mirror against a wall that is opposite to a door or window is a good move. On the other hand, mirrors reflecting each other (or simply having too many mirrors) in the space is not.
Add Vertical Lines
Similarly to vertical mirrors, vertical lines to create an attractive pattern against an accent wall will help to do the trick. This can be done using artwork, like slender paintings, or even through painting actual vertical patters on the wall. Hanging high window treatments or curtains also do the trick. Curtains for example can be slender and colored or have vertical patterns.
Using the walls to create storage in a smaller space is always a plus. As such, creating built-ins and shelves adjoined to the wall is a great way to do this. Of course, keep in mind the tips to keep colors light, as well as even to have some of them use reflective type surface like glass shelves or stainless steel is a good option. The design of the built-ins can be worked into the décor to create vertical lines as well and make the space more expansive.
